Meet Alfons: St. Alban's Parish Office Intern

From UCLA classrooms to noodle soup recommendations, get to know Alfons as he joins the St. Alban's parish office staff.

Alfons Rosales - Parish Office Intern

For the next few weeks, you may see a familiar face helping around the parish office! Many of you already know Alfons through his active involvement at St. Alban’s and the 580 Café. Still, we wanted to take a moment to introduce him more fully as he steps into a new role supporting the parish office over the coming weeks.

Alfons is currently a senior at UCLA studying English and Religious Studies. Originally from San Francisco, he transferred from City College of San Francisco and first found St. Alban’s while searching for Episcopal churches near campus.

What helped me plant roots here was the lovely community both at St. Alban’s and at the 580 Café.

As he begins helping in the parish office, Alfons says he is looking forward to meeting even more members of the community and welcoming both new and longtime parishioners.

And in case you didn’t know, Alfons has an identical twin brother, something he says is always fun to reveal to people.

When asked what has been most meaningful about being part of St. Alban’s, Alfons reflected on the generosity and wisdom of the parish community:

Part of what brings me back is learning from each of the talents various people have in both church and non-church matters. Whether it is setting up the altar, ringing a sanctus bell, finding a mathematical concept in the everyday (you know who you are!), or chatting about life, I appreciate the diversity of experiences from the parish!

Outside of church and school, Alfons loves exploring good food around Los Angeles, especially noodle soups. He mentioned Mr. Rice as a longtime favorite and says he has recently become obsessed with the Chinese Burger at XiBei Eatery. “It’s as good as it sounds.”

After graduation, Alfons plans to return to the Bay Area and enjoy a few years off from academic life. He looks forward to spending time exploring his faith and reflecting, and also supporting other students in community colleges around the area. Graduate school is likely in the future, though he admits he is looking forward to at least a brief break from the existential dread of essays.

We are grateful for Alfons and all the ways he shares his gifts with the St. Alban’s community. Be sure to say hello if you see him around the office!
