Christian Education

Our Christian Education programs invite people of all ages to grow in understanding and deepen their spiritual lives together.

At St. Alban’s, we take Christian education seriously. We don’t believe you have to check your brain at the door when you come to church. In fact, we believe that asking questions—about faith, Scripture, and the challenges of modern life—is an essential part of following Christ.

Through study, conversation, and reflection, we seek to love God with heart, soul, and mind. Our programs invite people of all ages to grow in understanding and deepen their spiritual lives together.

Opportunities

Weekly Bible Study

Thursdays on Zoom

Each week we gather online to discuss the lectionary readings for the upcoming Sunday. Together we explore Scripture in its context and meaning for our daily lives. All are welcome—whether you’re new to Bible study or a lifelong reader.

Sunday Morning Forums

Sundays, 9:15–10:00 a.m.
Before our main service, clergy and guest speakers lead discussions on faith, theology, and current events. These sessions provide a space to explore how our tradition speaks

Parish Book Groups

Throughout the year, St. Alban’s hosts two to three parish-wide book groups, inviting everyone to read, reflect, and grow together. Meetings are held in person and on Zoom, making it easy to join wherever you are. Past selections have included Life in Christ by Julia Gatta and other contemporary theological works that engage mind and spirit.

Parish Retreats

Our parish retreats combine academic rigor with contemplative practice. They offer a chance to set aside time, step away from the noise of daily life, and dwell deeply with God’s Word. Guided by clergy and guest theologians, these retreats invite us into both reflection and renewal.

Lecture Series

St. Alban’s is proud to host the Howe Lecture Series, which brings leading voices in theology, ethics, and spirituality to our parish. Past lecturers have included Dr. Andrew Thompson, ethicist and director of the Center for Religion and the Environment at the University of the South, and The Rev. Dr. Julia Gatta, professor of pastoral theology and author of Life in Christ

We also partner regularly with UCLA faculty and student groups to host lectures and panels on faith and public life. Our upcoming program will focus on reparations—examining perspectives from British colonialism, the American slave trade, and Germany’s post-Holocaust reckoning.
